The buy to let loan market was hit particularly badly during the recent recession, as both inexperienced and experienced landlords suffered high levels of loan arrears and in many cases, repossession of their investment properties. This in turn led to almost a complete shutdown in new loans from buy to let lenders. Over the course of the past eighteen months, however, the buy to let loan market has slowly recovered, as demand for rental property has gone through the roof, largely due to the fact that first time buyers are unable to get a home owner loan themselves
