There has been a significant increase in the number of 18 and 19 year old people who are facing serious debt problems through personal loans and credit cards, just as they are starting out on their adult lives, according to one debt charity. The Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) has seen a growing number of 18 and 19 year olds contacting them over the course of the last twelve months, for financial help and advice on their loans and other debts, with the average debt level standing at around £2,254, which excludes any debts from student loans. The average debts for this age group were made up of £671 in overdrafts, £2,610 in personal loans and £898 in credit card debt.
